If you make a million dollars a year, let’s be honest — you probably don’t need to invest in the stock market to live comfortably. The same goes for people who are independently wealthy through other means … or even people who prefer a simple lifestyle without the need for much money. In fact, most people only participate in the stock market through retirement funds or other “funds” given to professional investment managers. It appears that the American investing public has given up on directly investing in the public stock market.
This gives rise to an interesting paradox: People who could benefit the most from direct stock market investments are the same people who tend to stay away from them. But why is that?
